Vaginal Rejuvenation Q & A
What Is Vaginal Rejuvenation?
A vaginal rejuvenation procedure, known medically as a “vaginoplasty,” is a surgical method of tightening the vaginal opening and canal. This procedure is largely led by the patient’s wishes, and the tightness can be adjusted to the patient’s own desired level.
What Are the Most Common Reasons Women Seek Vaginal Rejuvenation?
It is quite common for women to have increased laxity in their vagina over time. They may notice it after childbirth or as they enter middle age or their senior years. When that laxity occurs, many women experience a lack of stimulation, a reduced ability to feel friction and, overall, less sexual gratification. Some women feel self-conscious about the appearance of their vagina as well; vaginal rejuvenation is designed to address all of these issues by improving muscle tone in the vaginal area and providing better overall vaginal strength. Both the outer and inner vaginal area will be decreased in diameter to provide these results.
How Long Will the Vaginal Rejuvenation Take?
In most cases, it is a fairly short procedure, lasting one to two hours.
What Is the Vaginal Rejuvenation Recovery Process Like?
The majority of women are able to move around (cautiously) once the anesthesia has worn off, in the first 24 hours or so. It is usually best to keep ice packs on the incision area when lying down or reclining to reduce pain and discomfort. It is OK to do routine tasks and even to return to work a week or two post-surgery, but avoid stressful activities such as rigorous exercise. Sexual intercourse and tampon usage are both prohibited for around six weeks post-surgery in most cases. After your surgery, it’s best to talk to the doctor about any other physical activities to make sure he gives the go-ahead before trying them.
